Under Shell’s strategic infrastructure overhaul masterplan initiated late 2005 significant proportions of the mandate focused on its West African operations, onshore assets in Nigeria in particular – Eastern (Warri) and Western (Port Harcourt) Operations.
Aggregating to over 400Ha of distribution locations, the infrastructure overhaul included interventions in residential camps, institutional & training facilities, leisure & hospitality provisions, and office parks amongst others. This representing the first ever coordinated and planned operational support infrastructure intervention since inception.
The flagship project of the portfolio was the new Regional Head Quarters building at the PHIA, a circa 63,000sqm GFA office campus to replace the dated main office complex – a set of four separated buildings traditionally known as ‘the ‘B’ blocks’ in the Port Harcourt base compound – the Industrial Area Campus.
Spread across G+3.5 floors (and a basement across circa 35% of the footprint the building) the campus – split in three phases, provided administrative offices, meeting rooms, training centers, conferencing facilities, support functions, car parking, etc. for a head-count of almost 5,000 personnel.
The phased implementation is to allow for sequenced decanting of the currently ‘littered’ IA-Campus into the incremental development of the new build complex.
